Although defeated, Chelsea remain in 10th place on the table, with pressure mounting on Graham Potter and his men
Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta had to be rushed to the hospital after he was struck in the face by Southampton substitute Sekou Mara in the late stages of their match.
The Blues were chasing an equalizing goal, but their hopes were dashed as a James Ward-Prowse freekick proved to be enough for Southampton’s first league win this year.
This secured them their first Premier League double against Chelsea in 35 years.
Although defeated, Chelsea remain in 10th place on the table, with pressure mounting on Graham Potter and his men.
Meanwhile, it is not yet clear if Azpilicueta will return for the upcoming London Derby versus Tottenham next weekend; Potter said of his condition “He’s conscious and speaking to his wife…Hopefully he is in the best place and we’re monitoring.”
